FOUR WAYS TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR HEATING BILL
1. Seal those Drafts – To find your leaks try the incense test. Hold a lit incense stick up to all of your joints. Where the smoke wavers, you have a leak. After finding your leaks plug them with caulking or weather-stripping. You can place a rolled up bath towel or a “draft snake” across the bottom of leaky doors and windows. Simply reducing drafts can cut heating energy use from 5 to 30%, according to the US Department of Energy, which can add up to hundreds of dollars of savings.
2. Turn down your thermostat – For every degree you lower the dial, you save between 1 and 3% of your heating bill. How to keep warm? Put on a sweater! A light long-sleeved sweater is generally worth about 2 degrees in added warmth and a heavy sweater can be about 4 degrees. Don’t forget wool socks, slippers, fleece and flannel. Save your shorts for summer and bundle up for the winter.
3. Upgrade your oil burner – A modern oil burner can cut your cost up to 15%.
4. Get a heating system tune-up = It will ensure you get maximum performance from every drop of heating oil burned. Our HVAC service department is available at 828-274-7277 for the Buncombe County area.
